Advisor KNOW HOW

Advisor KNOW HOW are opportunities for campus-wide faculty and staff academic advisors at UNI to develop or enhance their knowledge with academic advising as well as student persistence and success!  Offered throughout the academic year, each session will focus on a specific topic/content based upon one of the three NACADA Academic Advising Core Competencies areas presented in an environment focused on demonstration, engaged/hands-on, or discussion based learning.

All academic advisors and student success professionals are invited to participate in these sessions offered either in-person or by zoom.  No RSVP is required unless otherwise noted for a specific session.

Navigating Undergraduate Policies and Supporting Students on Alert, Probation, and Suspension

Co-hosted by Heather Asmus (Office of Undergraduate Studies) and David Marchesani (Office of Academic Advising)

While we will provide an overview of the relevant policy information, our primary aim is to share and discuss insights, strategies, and resources that academic advisors can utilize when working with students. This session will include presentation and discussion on the following topics:

  • Understanding the undergraduate academic standing policy
  • Accessing academic standing information for students
  • Readmission after suspension
  • Motivating care and providing support for at-risk students
