News and Notes for Undergraduate Academic Advisors: UNI Nursing Program | Military/Veteran Services | Study Abroad and Career Fairs | TELUS Health App

  • UNI Nursing Program
    • The first cohort of nursing program students will be in the Fall 2024 semester.  For complete information see the UNI Nursing Admissions page.
    • Students (admitted to UNI) can submit a nursing application to the Department of Nursing & Public Health, who will make admissions decisions for the program
    • Students can apply in the semester they are finishing prerequisite coursework
      • Apply by February 15 for the Fall cohort.  Decisions sent out around March 15.
      • Apply by November 1 for the Spring cohort.  Decisions sent out around December 1
    • Admissions is competitive as cohort sizes will be initially limited. Our first cohort will start in Fall 2024 with 24 students and will expand to 48 students in Spring 2025.

  • Military/Veteran Services (Part 3/3)

    • Information for Student Advisors regarding Veteran Educational benefits - Other DoD Educational Benefits    ** Students not Full Time (less than 12 credit hours) may receive reduced benefits
      • Federal Tuition Assistance – FTA**
        • FTA is financial assistance provided for voluntary off-duty education programs in support of a Soldier’s professional and personal self-development goals. FTA reimburses a Reserve or National Guard servicemember $250/credit hour, up to 16 credit hours per fiscal year – not to exceed $4000/year.
      • Iowa National Guard Service Scholarship – INGSS**
        • The Iowa National Guard Service Scholarship provides annual awards to Iowa National Guard members who attend eligible Iowa colleges and universities. Maximum individual awards cannot exceed the current maximum resident tuition rate at Iowa Regent Universities. INGSS pays for tuition only up to 130 credits to complete an undergraduate degree program.

      • Learn about the programs in over 30 different countries.
    • Career Fair
      • Career Services is excited to host "5 Fairs in 1" at the UNI Career Fair on Monday, September 18th from 11-3pm at McLeod. 
      • Whether interested in internships, part/full time positions, or networking, ALL students are encouraged to attend!
      • The 5 fairs are the following: Law Enforcement & Government; Community & Healthcare; Business, Finance, & IT; Engineering & Manufacturing; and Graduate School

UNI Career Fair - Fall 2023

  • TELUS Health App
    • 24/7 Real-time early intervention support via telephone or chat via the TELUS Health app for android and IOS.
    • This provides exclusive ability to provide crisis & in-the-moment support in 5 languages, English, French, Spanish, Mandarin/Cantoneses (simplified Chinese by chat) and 150+ languages by teletherapy appointments. 
    • Students call in or initiate a chat via the TELUS Health app.  An intake will launch asking basic demographic info for first time users and a needs and risk assessment for all users, and support preference i.e. real-time single session or short-term scheduled services. 
    • Students are then connected to a counselor in real-time support or scheduled counseling booked, via phone, video or IP.

    • The Academic Advisor Portal is a centralized point for campus-wide UNI faculty and staff academic advisors, as well as student success partners, for information and resources to enhance work with students and further expand professional development.
