- A student should fill their shopping cart before their registration date/time!
- In the shopping cart a student can
- Add multiple sections of the same course
- Add sections that meet at the same time or have overlapping meeting times
- See if each course is open or closed (and not needing to use "Class Search" to determine the status of each course)
- The student should have their ideal schedule entered as well as alternate sections of courses in their shopping cart in case your first choices fill up
- Adding classes to your shopping cart does not guarantee enrollment in those sections.
- The student must complete the enrollment verification process on or after their assigned registration date and time to secure their spot in the courses.

Tips for a Student Planning a Semester Schedule
- Degree Requirements: Select courses that align with their degree (UNIFI / major / minor / certificate / university electives) requirements and help progress towards graduation
- Reminder: For most degree programs at UNI, the minimum number of hours to graduate is 120 total earned credit hours.
- See the University Catalog - Undergraduate Information and Degree Requirements for specific information for each degree program.
- For your semester, do you have a mix of challenging courses with those you find easier or more enjoyable?

- Prerequisites: What specific courses or requirements must be completed before enrolling in a more advanced course in a future semester?
- Class Times: Choose class times that fit your personal schedule and peak productivity hours. Avoid back-to-back classes if you need time to commute or rest.
- Workload Balance: Balance your course load to avoid overwhelming yourself.
- What is an ideal credit load for you to be successful?
- What is the (realistic) amount of work each class will require me to do to be successful?

- The student should register for a full load of classes that meet academic requirements (UNIFI, major, minor or certificate) even if not their first choice of classes or preferred day/time course offering.
- A student can continue to make adjustments to their Spring 2026 semester schedule through Monday, January 26, 2026 by 4:30 p.m. (without approval if open)
- Approvals for Closed Classes / Late Adds

- Encourage students to schedule an appointment or complete the Academic Discuss Your Major Options Request Form.

- As a faculty or staff member, you can complete this referral form to start the outreach to a student considering changing their major.
