New Staff in the Office of Professional Distinction
- The Office of Professional Distinction (CBB 5) in the Wilson College of Business is excited to welcome Maddy Bolte as a new member of the academic advisor team!
- Today (Monday, October 6, 2025) is Maddy's first day in this position. Please welcome Maddy to the UNI academic advising community!
Holds that Prevents Registration
- As we approach the upcoming registration Spring 2026 semester period, please be aware of the types of holds that may prevent students from registering for classes which can help you better support students during advising sessions and enable the student to be proactive in getting these removed.
- The Advising Hold prevents registration and indicates a student needs to meet with their assigned academic advisor to have the hold removed prior to registering for next semester courses.
- How can I (or a student) know if they have an advising hold?
- The Holds and Service Indicators page from the Office of the Registrar provides a list of information including major/program, plan code, department and additional information on which students would have the hold.
- See the "Holds" information box on the right side of the individual's Student Center. Click on "Details" for specific information.

- How does a student know who is their assigned academic advisor?
- After logging into MyUNIverse and clicking on the "My Page" tab, click on the "Go to My Student Center" link. Within Student Center, locate the box titled "Advisor" along the right-hand side of the screen (click on "details" to see both email and phone contact).
- Other registration holds that prevents registration include (use this link for a complete list and details on each hold)
- Admissions: Undergraduate or International Admissions - Indicate additional action needs to occur or documentation needs to be submitted to complete the admissions process.
- MMR (Measles/Mumps/Rubella) - Documentation of vaccinations against measles/mumps and rubella is required. Please contact the Student Health Clinic or call 319-273-2009. More information is available at this website
- Registrar - Placed by the Office of the Registrar for a variety of reasons. Contact the Office of the Registrar at 319-273-2241 or registrar@uni.edu for specific details.
- Past Due U Bill & Other Student Account Holds - Indicates there is an outstanding financial balance due to the University. Contact Business Operations at 319-273-2164 or student.accounts@uni.edu.
- Suspension - Indicates the student is on academic suspension from the University. Undergraduate students should contact the Office of the Registrar at 319-273-2241 or registrar@uni.edu.
- Terms & Conditions - Indicates that the U-bill Terms and Conditions has not been agreed on by the student. Contact Business Operations at 319-273-2164 or student.accounts@uni.edu.
Study Abroad Summer Programs Fair
- Wednesday, October 8, 2025 | Noon –2:00 PM | Maucker Union Ballroom Lobby
- Do you have an advisee who is curious about studying abroad this summer? Have them go to the Study Abroad Center's Summer Programs Fair to explore their exciting summer school and faculty-led programs!
- Student's can meet past participants, chat with course leaders, and connect with the Study Abroad team to find your perfect adventure.
- Also encourage your students to attend an information session during the month of October 2025 about a Faculty Led Program offered in Summer 2026!
- The deadline for applications for these faculty-led programs is December 15, 2025.
Is Your Student Questioning their Current Major?
- Help them Pivot with Purpose by referring them to the Office of Academic Advising. Advisors offer personalized support to help students explore:
- Major, minor, and certificate options | Reasons for changing majors (e.g., lack of interest, career goals, academic challenges) | Self-assessments like FOCUS 2 or Strong Inventory | Goal-setting and decision-making strategies
- Encourage students to schedule an appointment or complete the Academic Discuss Your Major Options Request Form.

- As a faculty or staff member, you can complete this referral form to start the outreach to a student considering changing their major.
