News/Notes for Undergraduate Advisors: Semester Dates to Observe | World Music Ensembles | Registration TIQs (Tips, Information & Questions) | Passport Applications on Campus

Semester Dates to Observe
  • Tuesday, November 12, 2024 by 4:30 p.m.
    • Full Semester: Last Date to Drop with a "W" (instead of a "F")
      • The Drop Form is used for dropping courses once the term has begun. It is available to submit in person (with a photo ID) or via email.
      • Send the completed form (with signatures, only if required) to registrar@uni.edu from the student's UNI email.
      • All forms received from personal (non-UNI) emails will not be accepted.
    • Full Semester: Last Date to Change To or From Credit/No Credit
      • Use the Credit/No Credit Request form for an undergraduate student who would like to change a course from a graded basis to a credit/no credit basis.
         
World Music Ensembles
  • One (1) credit performance ensembles that are available to any student with no musical experience required:
    • West African Drum/Dance Ensemble - MUSENS 1120 | Section 09 | T /TH 12-12:50
      • Experience the dynamic music traditions of Ghana, Guinea, Mali, and beyond!  Through drum, dance and song you'll dive into a vibrant and historical West African performance art.
    • Brazilian Percussion Ensemble - MUSENS 1120 | Section 03 | W 11-11:50
      • Feel the pulse of Brazil's carnival!  In this high-energy ensemble, you'll learn the powerful, rhythmic style of parade drumming that will get you moving and expand your rhythmic skills.
    • Kaji Daiko Taiko Ensemble - MUSENS 1120 | Section 04 | W 9-9:50
      • Discover the art of Japanese Taiko!  This powerful and physical drumming style will build strength, rhythm and endurance as you explore Joapn's rich drumming tradition.
  • This informational flyer includes ensemble descriptions and enrollment information for the Spring 2025 semester.  These ensembles are a fantastic option for students both who are interested in these areas as well as needing an extra credit for full time status.

Registration TIQs (Tips, Information & Questions)
  • Can a student register for a course that they have previously completed?
    • Enrolling in a course previously completed is not prevented through the registration system.
    • In Step 3: View Results page in the registration system, the student will receive the message below with the indication that the enrollment transaction was successful
    • Note: For financial aid purposes, federal regulations limit the number of times a student may repeat a course and receive financial aid for that course.  See this link from the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships for detailed information.
Message for Repeat Class in Registration System
  • What error messages can a student receive in the registration system...and what should they do?
    • There is a hold on this record, preventing the add from being processed.  You must remove the hold to complete your registration.
      • Action step: The student should check the "Holds" tab in their Student Center to determine appropriate steps or who to contact to remove the hold.
    • The requested enrollment add was not processed. The enrollment limit for the class has been reached, and there is no room on the waitlist.
      • Action step: The section attempting to register for is closed.  The student should choose another section and/or course to register for.
    • Requirements have not been met to enroll in the specified class. The enrollment transaction was not processed.
      • Action step: Course requirements (prerequisites) for enrollment have not been met for the course.  The student should review the detailed course information to determine what requirements must be met to enroll in the section.
    • A scheduling conflict exists with a currently enrolled class.
      • Action step: Two or more course sections attempting to be registered in overlap in time.  The student should search for alternative course sections to enroll in or communicate with the instructor(s) about permission for the overlap.
    • Consent is needed to enroll in the class. The add transaction was not processed.
      • Action step: The student should request permission to enroll from the department or instructor as directed through the detailed course information for the class

Passport Applications on Campus
  • Did you know, about 40% of U.S. citizens hold a passport? As part of International Education Week, the Study Abroad Center and Black Hawk County Recorder's Office are working to increase accessibility to obtaining a passport.  
  • UNI faculty, staff, students, and community members can renew or apply for their U.S. passports at UNI's Passport Day on Wednesday, November 20th from 11am to 3pm at the Study Abroad Center (103 East Bartlett)
  • The Study Abroad Center will take free passport photos either before or during the event.
