Academic Dates to Note
  • See details and academic and schedule adjustment deadlines at the Office of the Registrar Calendar Dates to Observe.
    • Registration Dates for Winter/Spring 2026 by Classification: Today - April 14, 2026 - Freshman | April 15, 2026 - Unclassified
  • Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 4:30 pm.
    • Full Semester: Last Date to Drop with a "W" (instead of a "F")
      • The Drop Form is used for dropping courses once the term has begun. It is available to submit in person (with a photo ID) or via email.
      • Send the completed form (with signatures, only if required) to registrar@uni.edu from the student's UNI email.
        • All forms received from personal (non-UNI) emails will not be accepted.
    • Full Semester: Last Date to Change To or From Credit/No Credit
      • Use the Credit/No Credit Request form for an undergraduate student who would like to change a course from a graded basis to a credit/no credit basis.
Course Repeats @ UNI: What Should You Know?
  • Enrolling in a course previously completed is not prevented through the registration system.
  • On the Step 3: View Results page in the registration process, this message is provided to notify the user that the course has been previously taken and will indicate the enrollment transaction was successful by green check mark:

  • Note: For financial aid purposes, federal regulations limit the number of times a student may repeat a course and receive financial aid for that course.
Registration Tips, Information and Questions (TIQs) 
  • What error messages can a student receive in the registration system...and what should they do?
    • There is a hold on this record, preventing the add from being processed.  You must remove the hold to complete your registration.
      • Action step: The student should check the "Holds" tab in their Student Center to determine appropriate steps or who to contact to remove the hold.
    • The requested enrollment add was not processed. The enrollment limit for the class has been reached, and there is no room on the waitlist.
      • Action step: The section attempting to register for is closed.  The student should choose another section and/or course to register for.
    • Requirements have not been met to enroll in the specified class. The enrollment transaction was not processed.
      • Action step: Course requirements (prerequisites) for enrollment have not been met for the course.  The student should review the detailed course information to determine what requirements must be met to enroll in the section.
    • A scheduling conflict exists with a currently enrolled class.
      • Action step: Two or more course sections attempting to be registered in overlap in time.  The student should search for alternative course sections to enroll in or communicate with the instructor(s) about permission for the overlap.
    • Consent is needed to enroll in the class. The add transaction was not processed.
      • Action step: The student should request permission to enroll from the department or instructor as directed through the detailed course information for the class 
  • Undergraduate Course Number Explanation
    • Courses at UNI are designated by an alpha subject field (up to 8 characters) and 4-digit course number 
      • For a course (e.g. ART 3011), the 

        alpha subject field refers to the department or area of the course (e.g. ART) and the number is specific to the course (e.g. 3011)

      • Course Numbers: 
    • 0000 through 0999: Non-credit courses and courses offered to non-matriculated students (such as CIEP)
    • 1000 through 1999: Introductory, elementary, and general education courses with few if any prerequisites appropriate for first year students and others with no special background
    • 2000 through 2999: Lower level courses ideally taken by second/third year students building on materials and knowledge from the 1000 series courses. May have prerequisites
    • 3000 through 3999: Upper level courses, courses for majors, courses which require significant prerequisites
    • 4000 through 4999: Advanced upper level courses including seminars, advanced independent study courses, honors thesis work, etc.
    • All other higher course numbers are graduate level coursework
  • Semester Registration Resources
Is Your Student Questioning their Current Major?
  • Help them Pivot with Purpose by referring them to the Office of Academic Advising. Advisors offer personalized support to help students explore:
    • Major, minor, and certificate options | Reasons for changing majors (e.g., lack of interest, career goals, academic challenges) | Self-assessments like FOCUS 2 or Strong Inventory | Goal-setting and decision-making strategies
  • Encourage students to schedule an appointment or complete the Academic Discuss Your Major Options Request Form.
  • As a faculty or staff member, you can complete this referral form to start the outreach to a student considering changing their major.
