  • SPAN 3006 Spanish for Heritage Speakers
    • SPAN 3006 Spanish for Heritage Speakers is a class designed for students who grew up speaking Spanish. This class meets the linguistic needs and interests of Spanish heritage speakers. Academically, this class is very beneficial as it grants 18 college retro credits for the courses below this level: SPAN 1001, 1002, 2001, 2002, 3003 and 3006, if a Grade of B or better is obtained, allowing students to complete a Spanish certificate with only one class (SPAN 3006) and a Spanish minor with only 4 classes. It also helps build a sense of community with other heritage speakers; students develop a sense of pride and appreciation for the Hispanic culture and language as they improve their language skills.
    • Here is a break down of how the retro credits help those taking this class:
      • SPAN 1001, and 1002 count as University electives and satisfy the language requirement for graduation if that is not yet satisfied.
      • SPAN 2001, 2002, 3003 and 3006 - satisfy the requirements of the Spanish certificate (12 cr).
      • SPAN 2001, 2002, 3003, and  3006 count for the Spanish Major (8 more classes are needed to fully satisfy the Spanish Major).
      • SPAN 2001, 2002, 3003, and  3006 also count for the minor in Spanish (3 more classes are needed to fully satisfy this minor).
      • SPAN 3006 - counts towards the Translation minor (5 more classes are needed to fully satisfy this minor)
      • SPAN 2001 counts for the Linguistics certificate (3 more classes are needed to satisfy this certificate).
      • SPAN 3006 is offered on MWF at 12 pm in the fall semester.
