Building Intercultural Competence for the Student Success Professional

  • Facilitator: Frank McMillan, Academic Advisor in the College of Education at UNI and an Intercultural Development Inventory Qualified Administrator / Intergroup Dialogue Trained Facilitator
The goals of this workshop are to: 
  • Enhance knowledge of and comfort with intercultural communication
  • Create an understanding and establishment of a shared vision of this work
  • Develop a comprehensive resource list  
  • Build continued commitment and engagement to intercultural competence
 
Online registration for the Spring 2020 Academic Advisor Workshop is now available. Please register to attend this workshop by Friday, February 21, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.
 
All participants in the workshop will complete the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI).  The IDI assesses intercultural competence which is the capability to shift cultural perspective and appropriately adapt behavior to cultural differences and commonalities.  The Intercultural Development Inventory is a 50-item questionnaire available online that can be completed in 15–20 minutes. 
 
How to Participate? Pre-register for this workshop and complete the Intercultural Development Inventory prior to the workshop. 
  • For those who have not completed the IDI: Up to 25 individuals will be provided with the opportunity to complete this inventory free of charge on a first registered basis.  In addition, you will attend a pre-workshop to learn more about the IDI and your specific inventory results prior to the Spring Advising Workshop. 
    • There will be two pre-workshop sessions available: 
      • Monday, February 24 from 3-4 pm, Location SEC 218
      • Thursday, February 27, 1-2 pm, Location SEC 218
  • For those who already have completed the IDI: Attend the Spring 2020 Advisor Workshop in SEC 217 beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Clarification on completing the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) for the Spring 2020 Academic Advising Workshops:
 
Please complete the Spring 2020 Advisor Workshop Registration form as the first step in accessing and taking the Intercultural Development Inventory.
 
After you have registered for the workshop and indicated that you have not completed the IDI, you will receive a follow up email with a specific user code as well as directions on how to complete the IDI.
 
Emails will user codes and directions for completing the IDI will be sent out starting at the beginning of next week.
